How SmileFacts works

This site is designed so you can learn about dental topics the way that fits you best — whether you want a simple explanation, more detail, or research-level reading.

Step 1 — Choose a topic title

On the home page, select a common dental question such as:

Step 2 — Choose your level

Basic Plain language overview, key takeaways, easy videos and fact sheets.
Intermediate Deeper patient education, pamphlets, and “how it works” detail.
Advanced Guidelines, journals, PubMed searches, and professional-level sources.

You can switch levels anytime. Many people start at Basic and open Intermediate when they want the “why.”

Step 3 — Read the summary, then open resources

Each level includes:

How to use this with your dental visit

  1. Browse a topic before your appointment if you have questions.
  2. Write down 1–2 questions the reading raised for you.
  3. Bring those questions to your hygienist or dentist — your care is still personalized.
  4. After treatment recommendations, re-read the Intermediate or Advanced level for that topic.
Important: Online education supports — but never replaces — diagnosis and treatment planning by your dental professional. If you have pain, swelling, fever, or trauma, contact a dental or medical provider promptly.
